Eli's Cheesecake Dock Sale
Our annual day trip to Eli's Cheesecake for their dock sale to stock up for the holidays. We left South Bend with snow coming down. It seems we always get our first snow on "Dock Sale Day". But it quit around LaPorte and Chicago brought us cold and wind, but lots of sunshine and not a flake to be seen.
Our first stop was at Superior Nut & Candy. They offer candy and nuts in bulk and some nice gift sets, as well as fruit jelly for Christmas cookies.
The next stop was Eli's Cheesecake. Again, this year, luckily there was no line to stand and wait in outside in the cold and wind.
Notice the prices on the signs.
The checkout line.
Without having to wait in line, we were ahead of schedule and headed to Red Apple Restaurant for lunch.
Soup was served first before heading to the buffet for their superior offerings.
My plate. I always take the items that I can not make at home, as my husband would never eat some of these things, so it's a real treat for me. Ham hock and sauerkraut, pierogi, and chicken gizzards in gravy. He will eat the chicken and potato pancake. Red Apple has the best potato pancakes I have ever had. My dessert consisted of 3 more potato pancakes and a cheese blintz.
Our last stop was Gene's Meat Market. They have the freshest looking meat and a huge variety of prepared food. I counted 20 varieties of fresh sausage. I purchased Hungarian, Bison, and Mushroom and Swiss sausage.
I wish I could have gotten a picture of the luggage compartment of the bus, but it's in a very tight area and we were just concerned about getting our purchases stowed away and getting onboard. It was stacked to the brim!
