Chicago Botanic Gardens
Even if you are not a gardener, you have to love the beauty and peaceful surroundings of this wonderful gem in Glencoe, Illinois which encompasses 385 acres.
The Bonsai tree exhibit. I purchased a Bonsai tree kit in the gift sop, so I'm sure I will have a lovely Bonsai tree in about 50 years.
Some of the annuals are rotated throughout the season by volunteers.
The Corpse Flower blooms once a year and only lasts one day. We were there the day it was in full bloom. Oh yes, it did stink! They estimated the second flower would bloom in another 3 or 4 days. Excitement surrounded the Chicago area in anticipation of the day, so it was quite busy, with a waiting line to get into the tropical area.
The lovely cafe where we could grab a bit of lunch. We chose to sit outdoors on such a beautiful day.
Prior to departure, we boarded their tram for a narrated ride through the gardens and a look at the growing area.
On our way home, we stopped at Alexandra's Pierogi outlet store. They had every kind of pierogi imaginable, as well as blintzes and various dumplings. The service there was outstanding! I'm sorry to say that I did not take any pictures inside the store.
